How we calculate

Each year your deposits are added, the portfolio grows by the price growth, and dividends are paid as value × yield × (1 − tax). Reinvested dividends are added to the portfolio.

The yield then changes with dividend growth over price growth: yield × (1 + dividend growth) ÷ (1 + price growth).

Capital for a monthly income = monthly income × 12 ÷ (yield × (1 − tax)). Dividends are not guaranteed and can be cut; this is a simplified model, not a forecast.

Questions

What dividend yield should I use?
The current yield of the fund or shares you look at, from the provider. Try a few values — yields change.
Which tax do I enter?
The tax actually taken from your dividends: withholding tax abroad plus any tax at home. It depends on the country and your situation.
Reinvest or pay out?
Reinvesting makes the portfolio and future dividends grow faster; paying out gives you income now. Switch to compare.
