How much does currency conversion cost when investing?

How we calculate

Every monthly deposit is reduced by the conversion cost before it is invested; the rest grows with monthly compounding like in the investment calculator.

Lost = value without any conversion cost − value with the cost. The difference to the alternative compares two conversion costs on the same plan.

Exchange-rate moves themselves are not modelled — only the cost of converting.

Questions

Where do I find the conversion cost?
In the provider’s price list: an explicit FX fee in percent, or a spread compared with the market rate. Add both if there are both.
Does the exchange rate change matter?
Yes, but it can go either way and is not predicted here. The calculator shows only the cost you pay for converting.
How can I lower the cost?
Compare providers’ FX fees, or funds listed in your own currency that invest abroad. Check what fits your situation.
