How to useSettingsItemsQuotesOverview

What's inside

  • Items by room or stage and by category: material, labour, transport, waste, permits
  • Quantity × unit price = plan; write the real cost next to it
  • What is paid and what is still to pay
  • Contingency reserve in % on top of the plan
  • Three contractor quotes side by side with the cheapest highlighted
  • Charts: plan vs. actual by room and costs by category

How to use it

  1. 1On the Settings sheet name the project, set the reserve in % and adjust the list of rooms (stages) and categories.
  2. 2On the Items sheet add every item: room, category, quantity, unit and unit price. The plan is calculated.
  3. 3As bills come in, write the real cost and mark whether it is paid.
  4. 4On the Quotes sheet compare up to three contractors item by item — the cheapest price is highlighted.
  5. 5The Overview sheet shows plan vs. actual by room, the reserve and what is left to pay.

Questions

How big should the reserve be?
10–15 % for a renovation of a newer flat, 20 % or more for an old house, where surprises behind walls and under floors are common.
Can I change the rooms and categories?
Yes, on the Settings sheet. The drop-downs and the overview update by themselves.
Are the prices with VAT?
Enter them as you pay them — usually with VAT. Just keep it the same for all items and quotes.

Tips

  • Delete the example rows (a bathroom) before you start.
  • Ask for quotes with the same list of work so they can be compared.
  • Keep the reserve aside — don't plan it for extras.
