How it works
Slat positions use the same rules as the equal spacing calculator: a fixed count, a maximum gap or an exact gap, with your choice at the edges.
Each slat is cut to the wall height minus the free space you leave at top and bottom.
The slats are then packed into the stock lengths you can buy, including the saw kerf.
What the calculator assumes
- Vertical slats on one flat rectangular wall without openings.
- Every slat is one piece — no joints along the height.
- Backing panels, battens and fixings are not included.
Questions
- What gap looks good for a slat wall?
- There is no single rule — roughly a third to the full slat width is common. Try a few — the drawing updates instantly.
Planning aid only. It does not size structural members or check loads — follow the manufacturer's instructions and your local building rules.
