Rotating Slats for a Terrace: How Many Slats and SAM KIT Pairs
How to get the number of rotating slats, their length and the SAM KIT pairs from the size of your opening — with wooden and aluminium examples.
Rotating slats tilt to give shade or open up for air and a view. With the SAM KIT system the slats simply slot into the mechanism — no screws through the slats — and all of them tilt together. When planning, you need three numbers: how many slats, how long, and how many SAM KIT pairs.
What to measure
- Clear width — the distance between the posts or walls the slats will span.
- Clear height — from the bottom to the top of the opening.
How it is calculated
- 1Slat length = clear width − 36 mm for the SAM KIT bodies on both sides.
- 2Slats sit at a 95 mm pitch and fill the clear height minus 25 mm of clearance.
- 3One SAM KIT pair covers 475 mm of height — the number of pairs is rounded up.

Wooden slats can be up to 1.5 m long and aluminium ones up to 3 m. A wide opening with wooden slats is therefore split into two equal sections — or you choose aluminium and need just one.
